This intermediate series will help hoopers achieve a newfound depth and richness in their hoop dance practice, preparing them to take the stage with confidence. In this class, students will learn advanced variations of fundamental techniques, build control of the hoop with drills, integrate elements of dance (space, timing, energy, shapes, lines, levels, etc.) through creative movement explorations, and leave with new sequences and choreography that combines each of these objectives.

These techniques include waist hooping both directions, waist hooping while moving through space, sustained spinning, passing around the waist and head, hand hooping on both hands in both directions, hand hooping above the head (“halo”), basic weaves, helicopter, smear, basic escalators, basic wedgies, leg hooping, chest hooping, shoulder hooping, basic isolation, basic chest roll, and basic foot hooping. No formal dance training is required, the creative movement explorations are accessible to all levels. SnowBallette:

A Winter Workshop

With Angelina Matteliano

Sat. Dec 8th,

Part One: 12:30 - 2:45PM

Part Two: 3:30 - 5:00PM

Come warm up this Winter with some Ballet! In Part One, we will be focusing on targeted body conditioning and stretching that builds the strength and flexibility needed for all forms of dance. We will also cover the basic Ballet body positions and terminology to prep you for the second hour, which will be a beginner level Ballet technique class using the Russian Vagonova technique.

While Part Two of the workshop is optional, I encourage everyone to stay as it is sure to be a snowball of fun! We’ll be learning a short group piece in a Contemporary Ballet style that I’ve choreographed specially for the workshop! Here, you’ll have the opportunity to work as a group, practice picking up steps, explore how the class work is strung together to create choreography that flows; and see how classic Ballet pantomime can be used for story-telling!

P.S. Bring your favorite winter scarf for the choreography piece! I will bring a few of my own as well in case anyone needs to borrow one… Also, I will be bringing hot chocolate for the meal break! Because who doesn’t love hot chocolate on a cold December day?!?

PART ONE: $25

PART ONE & TWO: $35
